Easy Content Management: Drag, Drop, & Design

Can you imagine tech life without drag-and-drop functionality? We all know of (and a few of us remember) the time when this extremely useful feature didn’t exist. The ability to instantly select an object, drag it to a different area, and drop it into place eliminates far less efficient alternatives. This sort of user-friendly feature helps avoid cumbersome coding. It also makes somewhat daunting tasks, such as handling massive amounts of visual information pouring into a video wall system, a lot more manageable. Drag-and-drop asset placement = easy content management.

Consumers of large-scale video wall systems, such as security operations centers, real-time crime centers, and emergency operations centers, rely on instant availability and placement of content. In environments where the information must be rapidly updated and shared, content management methods really impact operational effectiveness. Before the convenience of drag-and-drop interfaces, controlling content by manually changing connections between inputs and outputs dramatically hampered fluid operation. Additionally, hard-wired connections between inputs and displays, locked the output to one location.

Haivision’s CineNet software gives video wall system operators unmatched, intuitive content control. With soft KVM or touch-screen capability, users can drag, drop, and resize content with immediate results. Content can be removed, replaced, and reorganized with ease.

As shown in the example above, at any given time there is typically much more content available than what is active on the video wall. The interface allows the user to selectively manage the content. They can choose from numerous sources, or assets, and layout the entire wall with drag-and-drop placement. The effect is immediately realized while in Live Preview mode. The view within the CineNet interface is a direct reflection of the actual video wall, allowing the operator to see exactly what the intended audience sees in real-time.

Drag-and-drop can also be used in CineNet to crop assets. In the video below, the traffic map is cropped to enlarge a specific region. Asset labeling and annotating are demonstrated as well. These tools facilitate wall layout design and dynamic presentation. Agencies with hundreds of content sources find asset labeling extremely beneficial, particularly when the tags look very similar, with only minor variations due to naming conventions. The ability to annotate the wall in real-time gives operators and presenters the opportunity to emphasize key data.

With so much content to manage and display with a finite amount of available video wall space, the ability to save layouts for routine operations prevents users from constantly recreating views. The video below demonstrates how easy it is to save layouts for future use. Save, overwrite, and delete layouts to maximize ease-of-use during critical missions.

Drag-and-drop, crop, resize, label, and annotation are just a few key content management tools in CineNet, but there are many more. For more complex use cases content can be scheduled, looped, rotated, and layered. Device control further allows the user to manipulate content once organized on the video wall. All of these tools complement our natural instincts to organize and package information in meaningful ways, as efficiently as possible.
