Comcast Corporation is one of the world’s leading media, entertainment, and communications companies. Comcast operates nationwide cable systems through Comcast Cable and develops, produces, and distributes content to global audiences through NBCUniversal.
Comcast planned to construct a new network operations center (NOC) in its Atlanta, Georgia Regional Control Center. In the NOC, Comcast technicians and operations specialists would monitor Comcast’s networks and maintain its nationwide service.
Comcast Selected CineMassive to design and build a collaborative visualization system for the new NOC. CineMassive was selected because of its ability to provide a turn-key visualization solution and its past successes in deploying such systems in NOC environments.
For Comcast’s NOC, CineMassive designed and built an LCD video wall composed of a 6×2 configuration of 55″ displays. The video wall provided an ultra-high-definition display where status indicators and controls could be viewed and monitored by all operators in the NOC.
The system was powered by an Alpha video wall controller, which allowed multiple data feeds to be sent to the displays at once and viewed at native resolution. This allowed operators to view and control all of their software tools and information systems on a single platform.
The team controlled the visualization system through a streamlined touch panel. At the touch of a finger, technicians could select sources they wanted to view on the video wall and arrange the content across the screens in real-time.
The CineMassive video wall system delivered a high-resolution common operating picture for the 24/7 team at Comcast’s NOC. With the new visualization system, operators could monitor their network performance dashboards, alarm systems, and more on a single platform and work collaboratively to resolve issues.
